Tyvek® RFID blocking sleeves are supplied by Material Concepts, offering protection from RFID card skimming. Material Concepts offers two types of Tyvek® sleeves for RFID blocking:

• Credit Card RFID Sleeves - can be used for credit cards, debit cards and ATM cards with embedded RFID technology and many other similar-sized cards like building access cards, company ID cards, school ID cards, driver's licenses, transit cards and other RFID-enabled smart cards.
• Passport RFID Blocking Holder - this larger sleeve can be used for passports with embedded RFID chips

RFID blocking is important to protect cards and passports from unknown or unauthorized access. RFID card skimming is the process of stealing the information from an RFID card; such illicit activities may be accomplished by theives with card readers used near an RFID card. With that information captured, a conterfeit card could be produced. Some credit cards have embedded RFID chips and all US passports issued since October 2006 contain an RFID chip that holds the holder's indentification data including your picture in digital format.

Tyvek® RFID (radio frequency identification) blocking credit card sleeves and passport sleeves have a Tyvek® outer layer for durability and an interior layer with a barrier to stop the radio frequency signals from being transmitted outside of the sleeve. So this RFID blocking sleeve complements electronic security measures such as encryption and authentication to provide an additional layer of protection against surreptiticous access. RFID shielded sleeves provide shielding for ISO 14443/15693 cards and EPC Gen1/Gen2 contactless smart cards and any contactless card that operates at 13.56 MHz and above, and is FIPS 201 approved by the US Government as an electromagnetically opaque shield.

Further, since they have a Tyvek® exterior, these protective sleeves provide the distinctive look and feel of Tyvek®. Tyvek® is lightweight, water resistant and tear resistant. In addition, they can be customized - the excellent printability quality of Tyvek® allows for a powerful and affordable means of advertising.
