The Ultralite OmnicovR® Tyvek® ground sheet comes in two styles, hard (hard-structure) and soft (soft-structure) Tyvek®. What Tyvek® groundsheet should you choose?

Hard - 8’x10’ sheet costs $29.99
The hard (hard-structure) Tyvek® groundsheet weighs just 1.6 oz/yd². Chances are good that you’ve come across hard-structure Tyvek®. The two most common examples are envelopes and Tyvek® HomeWrap®, advertised as a windbreaker for your house. Hard structure Tyvek® has a paper-like rigidity with a smooth slick surface. Those who have used Tyvek® HomeWrap® as a ground cover or footprint will commonly run it through a cycle in their washing machine to soften and make the Tyvek® more pliable.

Soft - 8’x10’ sheet costs $39.99
The soft (soft-structure) Tyvek® groundsheet weighs 1.75 oz/yd² and doesn’t need to be washed to become soft and pliable; it’s got a soft fabric-like hand, and with handling, becomes even softer and more pliable. Tyvek® has a unique balance of strength and softness; Durable and lightweight Tyvek® has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. If you’ve seen Tyvek® protective apparel, you’re familiar with soft-structure Tyvek®. Compared to a same size hard Ultralite OmnicovR®, the soft Ultralite OmnicovR®, when stuffed in your pack, will take up less space.

Using the Ultralite OmnicovR® Tyvek® Ground Sheet as a Cover
This Tyvek® ground cloth can be used above the ground too as a cover for just about anything. When attaching a rope or cord to the corner of the Ultralite OmnicovR®, use a sheet-bend knot to achieve the strongest tie downs. Never use traditional grommets; instead, use fabric clips, spring clamps, or tarp and fabric fasteners. The Ultralite OmnicovR® protects against dirt and moisture and is washable after use.

Cautions
Tyvek® is slippery and should not be used in applications where it is walked upon. Tyvek® should not be used near heat, flames, or sparks, so please use caution around the campfire.

Washing
Tyvek® ground sheets can be hand washed with mild soap. Or, they can be machine washed in cold water on a gentle cycle. No bleach. Drip dry only. Do not put in a dryer, dry clean, or use an iron on Tyvek®.
